The Story of Home, Reimagined.
Hearth & Home is more than a store. It is the culmination of a belief that our environments shape us. We are a collective of designers, artisans, and thinkers dedicated to curating spaces that inspire better living. Our journey began with a simple question: what if a home could be both a sanctuary for the soul and a platform for a well-lived life? This question is the foundation of everything we do, from the curve of a chair leg to the quiet hum of an efficient appliance. We invite you to learn about our purpose, our people, and our unwavering commitment to creating objects and experiences of enduring value.
Our Vision
"To be the world's most trusted and inspiring partner in creating homes of intentionality and soul. We envision a future where every object within a home contributes to a life of comfort, beauty, and conscious living, fostering connection with oneself, with family, and with the planet. We don't just furnish houses; we help cultivate the soul of a home."
Our Core Values
Our values are not just words on a page; they are the four pillars that support every decision we make, every product we source, and every customer we serve.
Unwavering Quality
Quality is our foundational promise. It is a tangible and intangible measure that we pursue with relentless passion. It's in the kiln-dried hardwood of our frames, the top-grain aniline leather that breathes and patinas, and the precision engineering of our appliances. But it extends beyond the physical. It is the quality of our design thinking, the quality of our customer interactions, and the quality of our commitment to stand behind our products for years to come. We believe true quality is an investment that pays dividends in durability, satisfaction, and peace of mind.
Intentional Design
We believe great design is invisible. It is the absence of friction and the presence of harmony. Our aesthetic philosophy is one of "quiet design"—creating pieces that are confident in their simplicity and purpose. We eschew fleeting trends in favor of timeless forms, balanced proportions, and honest materials. Every curve, line, and joint is considered for its impact on both form and function. This intentionality ensures our pieces not only look beautiful but feel right, integrating seamlessly into the rituals of your daily life.
Human-Centric Service
Our business is built on relationships, not transactions. We place the human experience at the center of our service model. From the moment you begin your journey with us, whether online or in-person, our goal is to provide guidance, support, and expertise with warmth and genuine care. This means listening before we speak, offering solutions instead of just products, and ensuring our white-glove delivery is a seamless, respectful entry into your home. We are your partners in this process, dedicated to making it as enjoyable as the final result.
Conscious Responsibility
We are profoundly aware of our impact on the planet and its people. This consciousness guides our entire operation. It means sourcing our wood from responsibly managed forests, partnering with manufacturers who share our commitment to ethical labor and environmental stewardship, and prioritizing energy-efficient appliances. It means designing products for longevity to combat throwaway culture, and developing programs like our furniture recycling initiative. We believe creating a beautiful home should not come at the cost of our shared global home.
Our Journey
A quarter-century of passion, growth, and commitment to reimagining the modern home.
The Idea is Born
Founders Alistair Finch and Clara Shaw, an architect and an interior designer, lament the difficulty of sourcing high-quality, aesthetically aligned furniture and appliances. The concept of Hearth & Home is sketched on a napkin: a single, curated destination for the modern dweller.
First Sustainable Collection
Recognizing the growing importance of environmental stewardship, we launch our first collection made entirely from FSC-certified wood and recycled materials. This marks a pivotal shift, embedding sustainability into our core DNA long before it became a mainstream trend.
Digital Transformation
We launch our full-service e-commerce platform, bringing the Hearth & Home experience to a national audience. The website incorporates design tools, 3D visualization, and seamless integration with our design consultation services, setting a new standard for the industry.
B Corp Certification
After a rigorous evaluation process, Hearth & Home becomes a certified B Corporation. This legally binds us to consider the impact of our decisions on our workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment, formalizing our long-standing commitment to business as a force for good.
Future Forward
Celebrating 25 years, we continue to innovate with a focus on circular design, smart home integration, and expanding our artisan partnerships. Our mission remains the same, but our methods continually evolve to meet the needs of the modern world and the future of home life.
Our Goals for the Future
We are always looking forward. Our goals are ambitious yet achievable, guiding our efforts to continually improve and innovate for our customers and our planet.
Achieve Full Circularity by 2035
Our most ambitious goal is to transition to a fully circular business model. This means designing all our products for disassembly and material recapture, expanding our "Renew" take-back program to be a core part of our business, and investing in technologies that turn old furniture into new raw materials. We aim to eliminate the concept of "waste" entirely from our operations, creating a closed-loop system that honors the planet's finite resources.
Double Our Artisan Partnerships
We believe in the power of small-scale, master craftsmanship. Our goal is to double our network of independent artisan partners over the next five years. This involves actively seeking out and nurturing talent in woodworking, upholstery, and metalworking, providing them with a stable platform to showcase their skills. This not only ensures the uniqueness and quality of our collections but also helps preserve invaluable craft traditions for the next generation.
Enhance Our Immersive Digital Experience
The future of retail is a seamless blend of physical and digital. We are committed to investing in augmented reality (AR) tools that will allow customers to realistically visualize our furniture in their own homes with true-to-life scale and texture. We will also expand our online design services with AI-powered style recommendations and collaborative virtual design sessions, making expert guidance more accessible than ever before.
Our Guiding Principles
Beyond our values and goals, a set of core principles informs our daily work and our design aesthetic. These are the immutable laws that govern our approach to creating and curating for the home.
- Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication. We believe in subtraction, not addition. We strip away the non-essential to reveal the pure form and function of an object. A clean line, a perfect joint, a single, honest material—this is where true elegance lies.
- Functionality is Non-Negotiable. A beautiful chair that is uncomfortable is a failure. A stunning appliance that is difficult to use is a flaw. We hold that an object's primary purpose is to serve its user effectively and intuitively. Beauty must always be in service of function.
- Materials Must Tell a Story. We choose materials that have character and integrity. The grain of wood, the weave of a linen, the cool weight of marble—these textures connect us to the natural world. We believe materials should be celebrated, not disguised, and should age gracefully, acquiring a patina that reflects a life well-lived.
- Create for Longevity, Not for a Season. We are fundamentally opposed to throwaway culture. We design and build our pieces to last for generations, both in terms of physical durability and timeless style. This is our most powerful tool in promoting sustainability.

Our Strategic Framework
Our vision is ambitious. Our strategy is how we make it a reality. It is a multi-faceted approach focused on four key pillars that work in concert to deliver the Hearth & Home promise.
1. Curated Vertical Integration
Instead of offering an overwhelming catalog, we pursue a strategy of deep curation. This involves not only selecting the best finished products but also integrating deeper into the supply chain. We work directly with raw material suppliers and artisan workshops to co-create exclusive collections. This "vertical curation" gives us unparalleled control over quality, design, and ethical standards, ensuring that every item that bears our name meets our exacting criteria from the ground up.
2. An Omnichannel Service Ecosystem
We refuse to see a divide between our physical showrooms and our digital platform. Our strategy is to create a single, fluid ecosystem where the customer can move seamlessly between channels. A design plan started with a consultant in-store can be accessed and modified at home via our website. An item viewed online can be experienced in person. Our service teams, logistics, and inventory are fully integrated, providing a consistent, high-touch experience regardless of the touchpoint.
3. Investment in Sustainable Innovation
We strategically allocate a significant portion of our R&D budget to sustainable innovation. This isn't just about using recycled materials; it's about pioneering new ones. We are investing in research on bio-based foams, plant-based leathers, and carbon-negative materials. We partner with tech startups to improve energy efficiency in our appliance offerings and work with logistics experts to optimize our delivery routes, reducing our carbon footprint at every stage of the product lifecycle.
4. Fostering a Culture of Expertise
Our greatest asset is our people. Our strategy focuses on continuous investment in their knowledge and passion. Every Hearth & Home employee, from sales associate to delivery driver, undergoes extensive training in design principles, material science, and our brand philosophy. We empower them to be true consultants and problem-solvers. This culture of expertise ensures that our customers receive not just service, but valuable, insightful guidance.
The People Behind the Promise
Hearth & Home is brought to life by a team of passionate individuals who share a common belief in the power of thoughtful design.

Alistair Finch & Clara Shaw
Co-Founders
Alistair's architectural background in minimalism and structural integrity combines with Clara's intuitive eye for texture, color, and human-scale design. They remain the driving force behind the company's vision, personally overseeing the curation of each new collection. They founded Hearth & Home on the principle that a home's design should be a quiet, constant source of joy and ease, a philosophy that continues to guide the company 25 years later.

Dr. Elena Santos
Head of Sustainability & Innovation
With a Ph.D. in Material Science, Elena leads our charge towards a circular economy. She is the brilliant mind behind our transition to low-impact materials and our B Corp certification. She travels the world to vet suppliers, research new technologies, and ensure our supply chain is as beautiful and well-crafted as our final products. Her work ensures our brand's conscience is as strong as its aesthetic.

Marcus Thorne
Director of Customer Experience
Marcus believes that luxury is not a price point, but a level of service. He has meticulously designed every touchpoint of the Hearth & Home journey, from the intuitive website to the rigorous training of our white-glove delivery teams. His obsession is with creating a seamless, frictionless, and genuinely delightful experience for every customer, ensuring our service is as well-designed as our furniture.
The Hearth & Home Experience
We design the experience of creating a home with as much care as we design the products that go into it.
Your journey with us is designed to be one of discovery and delight, not stress and indecision. It begins with inspiration—our lookbooks, our editorial content, and our thoughtfully designed showrooms are all crafted to spark your imagination. But we quickly move from the abstract to the tangible. Our design consultants are trained to be expert listeners, translating your needs and lifestyle into a concrete plan. They help you navigate the complexities of scale, color theory, and material pairings, acting as your trusted guide.
The process is collaborative and transparent. With tools like 3D rendering and physical swatches, you are a co-creator in your home's design, making informed, confident choices every step of the way. Once your selections are made, we orchestrate the logistics with precision. You are kept informed, not left wondering. The culmination of this journey is our white-glove delivery, a service designed to be the final, perfect note. It is a moment of excitement and transformation, handled with such care that all you have to do is step back and fall in love with your new space. This holistic, supportive journey is the intangible value we offer—it is the true Hearth & Home experience.
Our Influence & Community
We aim to be more than a retailer; we strive to be a positive force in our industry and in the communities we serve.
Setting Industry Standards
Through our early adoption of sustainable practices and our unwavering commitment to quality, we have helped raise the bar for the entire home furnishings industry. Our transparent sourcing and B Corp certification challenge others to look beyond the bottom line. We openly share our findings on sustainable materials and ethical manufacturing, believing that a rising tide of responsibility lifts all boats.
Design Education
We are committed to demystifying design. Through our online journal, workshops, and in-store events, we provide accessible education on topics from color theory to the history of modernism. We believe that empowering people with design knowledge helps them become more conscious consumers and more confident creators of their own personal spaces.
Community Partnerships
Our "Renew" program is a cornerstone of our community engagement. By donating high-quality, pre-owned furniture to local housing charities and shelters, we help furnish homes for families in transition. We believe that a comfortable, dignified living environment is a fundamental need, and we are proud to use our resources to help provide that for our neighbors.
Innovating for Tomorrow's Home
The concept of "home" is constantly evolving, and we are dedicated to evolving with it. We are actively researching and developing solutions for the homes of the future, which we believe will be more flexible, intelligent, and deeply integrated with principles of well-being.
We see a future of modular, adaptable furniture systems that can grow and change with a family's needs, reducing the need for replacement. We are pioneering the integration of non-intrusive smart technology—furniture with built-in ambient lighting that syncs with circadian rhythms, or kitchen systems that actively help you reduce food waste. We are also exploring the principles of biophilic design, finding new ways to incorporate natural elements and patterns into our pieces to create spaces that are proven to reduce stress and improve well-being. By anticipating the shifts in how we live, work, and connect within our homes, we can continue to create products that are not just relevant, but essential for a better life.
